Rebate Program

FortisBC Rebates & Energy-Efficiency Offers

FortisBC provides a range of residential energy-efficiency rebates and incentives for eligible electricity and natural gas customers in British Columbia. Current HVAC-related offers include rebates for air-source heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, heat pump servicing, furnace and boiler maintenance, tankless water heater maintenance, home renovation bonus rebates, and certain conversions from oil or propane to eligible natural gas heating systems. Program eligibility varies significantly by utility type. Some heat pump rebates are available specifically to FortisBC electricity customers and customers of participating municipal electric utilities, while appliance maintenance and natural gas conversion incentives apply to qualifying FortisBC gas customers. Income-qualified households may qualify for enhanced heat pump and water-heating rebates. Customers should confirm the applicable program before purchasing equipment or beginning work.

Current FortisBC HVAC-related residential offers include:

Heat pump rebates: Eligible FortisBC residential electricity customers may receive $4,000 for a qualifying whole-home heat pump or $1,500 for a partial-home system.

Income-qualified heat pump rebates: Qualifying households may receive up to $12,000 for an eligible centrally ducted whole-home heat pump, $9,000 for qualifying whole-home mini-split or multi-split systems, or up to $5,000 for a partial-home heat pump.

Heat pump water heaters: Eligible customers replacing a standard electric storage water heater with a qualifying heat pump water heater may receive a $1,000 rebate.

Heat pump service: Eligible FortisBC or participating municipal electricity customers may receive a $50 rebate for qualifying heat pump servicing.

Gas appliance maintenance: Eligible FortisBC gas customers may receive $50 for furnace or boiler servicing, $50 for eligible tankless water heater servicing, and $25 per eligible fireplace for up to two fireplaces. The maximum appliance-maintenance rebate is $150 per household.

Home renovation bonuses: Eligible customers completing multiple qualifying energy-efficiency upgrades may qualify for additional bonus rebates. The Two Upgrade Bonus is $300, while the Home Energy Improvement Bonus may provide up to $2,000. Only one of these bonus types can be claimed per home.

Connect to Gas: Eligible customers converting their primary heating system from oil or propane to natural gas may qualify for separate FortisBC Connect to Gas incentives. Current offers include $2,000 for an eligible ENERGY STAR natural gas furnace or boiler plus a temporary $1,000 bonus for qualifying projects, subject to program deadlines and pre-qualification.

Eligibility

Eligibility depends on the specific FortisBC program, utility account, property type, existing heating or water-heating system, household income and installed equipment.

For standard residential heat pump rebates:

• The home must have an eligible residential FortisBC electricity account or a participating municipal electricity account. • The home must generally be a year-round primary residence at least 12 months old. • Eligible property types include qualifying single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, row homes, townhouses and mobile homes on permanent foundations. • The new heat pump must replace an eligible hard-wired electric space-heating system such as electric baseboards, radiant heating or an electric forced-air furnace. • Replacing an existing heat pump or simply adding another indoor head does not qualify. • The heat pump must be installed by an eligible Home Performance Contractor Network member. • Self-installations are not eligible. • Whole-home projects require a program-approved heat-load calculation using an accepted sizing method. • Applications must generally be submitted within six months of the paid invoice date.

Income-qualified heat pump rebates have additional household-income requirements and require proof of income.

Natural gas rebate and maintenance programs have separate eligibility requirements and generally require an eligible FortisBC gas account.
