On the job
Every Coreline install is commissioned, not just connected — refrigerant charge verified by gauge, airflow balanced, and the system run through a full heating and cooling cycle before we sign off.
The Coreline Standard
Sixteen years of heat pump installs, furnace swaps, and 2 a.m. no-heat calls taught us what homeowners actually want from an HVAC contractor. We wrote it into four rules — and they're why more than half of Coreline's Metro Vancouver work arrives by referral.
Rule · 01
Before we recommend anything, we map your home's real heat load — every room, window, and duct run. The result is a heat pump or furnace sized for your insulation, your layout, and your winters.
Rule · 02
Your written quote covers the equipment, the labour, the permits, and the cleanup. It's the same number on the final invoice — and if anything unexpected comes up, we talk before we touch it.
Rule · 03
Coreline technicians are Red Seal certified and TSBC licensed, and not one of them works on commission. When we say your furnace has good years left in it, it's because it does.
Rule · 04
Every call gets a response within one business hour, seven days a week — and the 24/7 emergency line puts you through to a local technician when the heat cuts out at 2 a.m.
How it works
A Red Seal technician walks every room, window, and duct to measure what your house actually needs. Thirty minutes, no charge, no pitch.
One number, everything included. The price we quote is the price on your invoice.
Most installs finish in a single day. Floors tarped, old equipment recycled, and the system commissioned and explained before we leave.
A 10-year workmanship warranty, annual maintenance reminders, and a 24/7 emergency line for the nights something quits.
Good to know
A few minutes of HVAC knowledge saves years of comfort problems. Here's what actually matters when you're comparing systems and quotes.
An oversized system short-cycles — it blasts, shuts off, and never runs long enough to dehumidify or filter your air, while wearing out its compressor early. That's why every Coreline quote starts with a room-by-room heat-loss calculation, not the nameplate on your old unit.
AFUE is how much of your gas becomes heat — 96% AFUE means 4% goes up the flue. SEER2 rates cooling efficiency, HSPF2 rates heat pump heating. Higher is better, but installation quality moves real-world performance more than the label does.
Below about 3°C an outdoor coil frosts up, and a heat pump runs a short defrost cycle — steam rising off the unit is normal, not a fault. The cold-climate models Coreline installs hold full heating output to −15°C and keep working to −25°C.
A MERV-13 filter captures the fine wildfire-smoke particles a builder-grade filter misses, and a heat-recovery ventilator brings in fresh air without throwing away your heat. Change filters every three months — more often in August.
Reviews
Heat pump installations in Kitsilano, furnace repairs on the North Shore, ductless mini splits in Burnaby — here's what homeowners say about working with Coreline.
"We got three quotes to replace the old gas furnace in our 1912 Kitsilano house, and Coreline was the only company that actually measured every room before recommending a heat pump size. The installation took one day plus a morning for the electrical, they tarped the floors, and the crew walked us through the thermostat before leaving. The upstairs stayed comfortable through the August heat wave — first summer this house has ever managed that."
"Our furnace quit on a Friday night in January. Someone actually answered the phone, a technician was out Saturday morning, and we had heat again that afternoon. The invoice matched the quote. Can't ask for more than that."
"Third company we had quote a ductless mini split for our upstairs in Burnaby — and the only one that ran a heat-loss calculation instead of eyeballing it. Took about two weeks to get on the install schedule, but the work was tidy and the unit is quieter than our fridge."
"Coreline handled our heat pump conversion in Richmond and kept us updated by email the whole way. Of the four companies we called, they were the only one that explained what our old ductwork could and couldn't handle."
"Called the emergency line at 11 p.m. when our heat cut out in February. The technician talked me through checking the condensate line over the phone and that fixed it — no visit needed, no charge. They handle our annual maintenance now."
FAQ
The questions every Vancouver homeowner asks us — answered the way we'd tell a friend.
Every house is different — size, ducting, and the system you choose all move the number. After the free assessment you get one fixed quote, and it doesn't change.
The cold-climate units we install are rated to −25°C and run at full heating capacity through a typical Vancouver snap. Thousands are running on the North Shore right now. A backup stage covers the once-a-decade outlier.
Most single-system swaps finish in one day; a full duct-and-system retrofit runs two to three. The schedule is confirmed in your quote, and our crews don't leave jobs half-open over a weekend.
Yes — tankless water heaters, storage tanks, and boilers are core work for us: installation, repair, and annual service, all under the same one-number quote.
Yes — all makes, all ages. If it's worth repairing we'll repair it; if it isn't, we'll show you the math before recommending anything bigger.
Most Metro Vancouver homes land between 1.5 and 4 tons — but the honest answer comes from a heat-loss calculation, not square footage. Windows, insulation, and ducting can swing the number by a full ton. Oversizing is the most common mistake we're called to correct.
Once a year for furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps — ideally before their heavy season — plus a filter change every three months. Annual service keeps manufacturer warranties valid and catches the failing part before it becomes the no-heat call.
Yes — that's a hybrid, or dual-fuel, setup. The heat pump carries most of the year at higher efficiency, and the furnace takes over on the coldest nights. It's a practical retrofit path for older Vancouver homes with a newer furnace.
