BC Hydro Heat Pump Water Heater Rebate
BC Hydro currently offers a $1,000 rebate for eligible electric heat pump water heater installations under its Home Renovation Rebate Program. Heat pump water heaters capture heat from the surrounding air to heat domestic water and can use substantially less electricity than a conventional electric resistance water heater. The installed product and installation must meet current program requirements, and the existing water heater must meet the applicable replacement criteria.
Before purchasing or installing a heat pump water heater, confirm:
• The existing water heater meets the program's replacement requirements. • The selected heat pump water heater is listed as eligible under the current BC Hydro program. • The installation location has adequate space, drainage, ventilation and electrical capacity. • The installation will be completed by an appropriately qualified contractor. • The invoice clearly identifies the installed equipment and installation date. • The application is submitted within the current program deadline.
Heat pump water heaters may require different installation conditions than conventional electric water heaters, including adequate surrounding air volume, condensate drainage and sufficient electrical service.
Eligibility
The existing water heater must meet BC Hydro's current replacement eligibility requirements and normally be the home's primary water heater.
The new heat pump water heater must be an eligible product and must be professionally installed. Self-installations are not eligible.
