BC Hydro Heat Pump Rebate
BC Hydro's Home Renovation Rebate Program provides incentives for eligible homeowners replacing an existing electric heating system with a qualifying air-source heat pump. The standard whole-home rebate is $4,000. To qualify as whole-home heating, the system must be sized to meet 100% of the home's heating requirements at -5°C without electric resistance heat. A partial-home option provides a $1,500 rebate where the heat pump meets at least 50% of the home's total heating requirement. Whole-home projects require a recognized heat-load calculation using CSA F280-12 verified software. Eligible heat pumps must meet program efficiency and equipment requirements and must be installed by a Home Performance Contractor Network member.
Before selecting equipment, the contractor should confirm:
• The home's calculated heating load. • Whether the project qualifies as whole-home or partial-home heating. • The heat pump's capacity at the required outdoor temperature. • Whether the exact indoor and outdoor equipment combination appears on the applicable eligible-product list. • Electrical capacity and any required electrical upgrades. • Required permits and installation scope. • Current rebate application deadlines and documentation.
For whole-home projects, retain the completed heat-load calculation summary and supporting heat-load report for the rebate application.
Eligibility
The home must generally be an eligible year-round residence primarily heated by electricity.
For the $4,000 whole-home rebate, the heat pump must meet 100% of the home's heating requirements at -5°C without electric resistance heat. A CSA F280-12 heat-load calculation is required.
For the $1,500 partial-home rebate, the heat pump must meet at least 50% of the whole home's heating requirement.
Eligible equipment must meet BC Hydro product requirements, including applicable efficiency ratings and approved equipment listings. Installation must be completed by an eligible HPCN contractor. Replacement of an existing heat pump and self-installation are generally not eligible.
