Rebate Program
BC Hydro Condo & Apartment Heat Pump Rebate
BC Hydro's Condo and Apartment Rebate Program is designed for eligible individual residential units in strata condominiums, equity co-ops, purpose-built rental buildings and qualifying multi-unit properties. Eligible units replacing electric space heating with a qualifying heat pump may receive rebates of up to $2,250. Unlike the standard Home Renovation Rebate Program, condo and apartment applicants must generally receive program pre-approval before purchasing or installing equipment.
Before starting a condo or apartment heat pump project:
• Obtain BC Hydro program pre-approval before purchasing equipment or beginning installation. • Confirm that the individual residential unit and existing heating system meet current eligibility requirements. • Obtain any required strata, landlord or building approvals. • Confirm the proposed outdoor-unit location, noise requirements, condensate drainage and service access. • Verify that the selected indoor and outdoor equipment combination is eligible under the current program. • Confirm electrical capacity and any building-level restrictions that may affect installation. • Keep the pre-approval, invoice, equipment information and installation documentation for the final rebate application.
Multi-unit buildings often have additional installation constraints, including strata bylaws, exterior appearance requirements, limited outdoor-unit locations and shared electrical infrastructure.
Eligibility
The unit must meet BC Hydro's eligible multi-unit residential property requirements and generally be currently heated by electricity.
Eligible applicants can include individual condo owners and certain rental building owners upgrading an individual unit.
Pre-approval is required before purchasing equipment or beginning installation.
Strata or building approval may also be required. Renters are not currently eligible under the standard program.
Income-qualified applicants should review the applicable CleanBC condo and apartment program before beginning work.
